Contractor installing flooring, accounting and tax for the trades in southwest Missouri

Accounting & Tax for Contractors

Sindland CPA works with owner-operated contractors and service businesses across southwest Missouri: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, flooring, roofing, concrete, excavation, remodeling, and general contractors. Most have outgrown do-it-yourself books but don't need a full-time controller. That's the gap we fill.

Ozzie grew up working in his father's hardwood flooring business before becoming a CPA, so he knows how the trades run: bids, crews, draws, equipment, and cash that comes in lumpy.

What we help with

Monthly books you can trust. We clean up your books, keep them reconciled every month, and send you clear monthly reports so you always know where the business stands.

Job costing and WIP. We track costs and billings by job so you can see which jobs make money, and maintain a work-in-progress schedule when you need one.

Year-round tax planning. Your planning runs off the same monthly books we keep, so the numbers are current when decisions come up. More on our Tax Planning page.

Equipment and vehicles. We help you time purchases and depreciation elections around cash flow, not just the deduction.

Payroll and cash flow. We keep payroll records tied to the books and help you see the next few months of cash before they arrive.

Frequently asked questions

Can you help me see which jobs are actually making money?

Yes. We track costs and billings by job and give you a report that shows profit on each one, kept up to date as part of the monthly books.

What is a WIP schedule, and do I need one?

A work-in-progress schedule compares what each open job has cost and billed against its estimate, so you can see whether you are overbilled or underbilled. Contractors with larger or longer-running jobs usually benefit from one.

My books are months behind. Can you catch them up?

Yes. We clean up and reconcile the missing months first, then keep the books current each month so you're working from real numbers, not estimates.

Should I buy equipment before year-end to lower my taxes?

Only if you need the equipment. Depreciation elections can let you deduct much of the cost in the year you buy it, but spending cash just for a deduction rarely makes sense. We plan purchases around cash flow first.

Do you work with small crews and sole proprietors?

Yes. We work with owner-operators and growing contractors alike. What matters is that you want accurate books and planning, not just a year-end return.
